All the other answers are great. I recently went to a Broadway show and I saw people wearing everything from shorts and a t-shirt to full length formal dresses. I think semi formal wear would be best, then you are not overdressed or underdressed. Sundresses, slacks, button up shirts, heels, and so on. Whatever you wear I am sure you will have a great time, enjoy!

If it's an after 5 show, the usual attire is semi-formal to formal wear; things have really changed over the years though. The acceptable wear is now business attire, or church attire as well as the previously stated wear.

Hope this helps but If you're still not comfortable you can also call the theater where the show will be hosted and they will be more than happy to give you more information.

i think the best way to describe proper broadway attire, is business casual. nothing over the top, but a little dressy. remember to bring a light jacket or sweater, as most theaters have the ac on so high it can get quite chilly.

Broadway, especially in the summer, has become very casual. Some theatres are heavily air conditioned, so having a light jacket or a sweater is sometimes a help. Long pants rather than shorts but summer casual is fine.

Make sure the kids are prepped for the show, and for ettiquette in a live show, where one is not supposed to talk during the performance. Some theatres have booster seats for smaller patrons - ask in advance. If they don't think about bringing a backpack on which the smaller members might sit to raise their viewing level.
