SOCCER: Liverpool Back In Hunt

Liverpool Football Club is back in the hunt for title honors following their memorable win over long time rival Manchester United.

The Reds sealed their first win against Man United at Old Trafford since March of 1990 with a 1-0 win on Sunday to end a long drought and restore some pride in club competitiveness.

The 10-year drought ended with a sparkling defensive game, which although was un-Liverpool like, was what was needed to hold off a Manchester team that never looked like scoring when coming forward.

The only goal of the match was well finished by Danny Murphy from a 20 yard free kick, after home side player Gary Neville miss judged a long ball bringing it down with his arms.

Murphy is incidentally the first Englishman to score against Man United this season.

Liverpool now looks to this weeks match against fellow title chasers Arsenal at home.

The match at Anfield should have plenty of spice given that their first match at Highbury in August ended with three red cards, the home team prevailing 2-0.

Other Liverpool news include rumors that star forward Robbie Fowler looks to be on the Leeds wish list at about 10 million pounds. Fowler who is currently club captain has had a howler of a season so far playing few matches after his return from injury.

When the boys take the field on Saturday, no matter what the line-up, there is sure to be a spirited effort given they are currently 10 points adrift from the top spot, but on a high after that match on Sunday.

Liverpool, the most successful English club has not won a title in 10 years but maybe, just maybe this will be their year.
