Disclaimer-my 14 year old son is the one who plays the game. He absolutely loves it, and from what he tells me it seems pretty sophisticated. He even got “fired” from managing a team (ah, well ). Now he’s trying to find a team that will take him, even with his controversial management style. Highly recommended!

The last “soccer manager” game I played was Ultimate Soccer Manager 98, I had been thinking about that game recently and so I looked for this game. I purchased this directly from steam.
I love Football Manager 2012. You can dig as deep as you like, or let the computer handle all of the small details. I tried the demo of Championship Manager (the game before this series), but it really felt like I was playing a spreadsheet. I never feel like I am playing a spreadsheet manager with this game. I set up my formations, make sure my set pieces are still good, give my players a speech and then watch the action unfold on the field. The 3d action is good, not great (still fun to watch). I have over 100 of playtime right now, and I am sure I will continue to rack it up.
So, why four stars instead of 5?
Steam is required to play this game. I like Steam less with each passing day. There are also some minor quirks with the game… For example, own goals happen often in this game. After I got fired from Cambridge United, I went to Korea and managed a team there. After four games, the team hired a new manager, and did not fire me. If I resigned from the team, the new coach would resign, not me. I had no control over the team. I had to quit that game. Another fustrating glitch is when a player is mad at me and complains that he is not getting first team experience, but it is my best striker, WHO PLAYS EVERY GAME. How can I play them more????
BUY THIS GAME. You will have to have a steam account, even thought you paid for it on Amazon. Oh yeah, Steam will give you the MAC version, AND the PC version.
