European champions Spain were humbled by Switzerland in the first upset of the FIFA World Cup 2010. Switzerland 1 Spain 0 (Group H)
Spain had won 12 games in a row, and had lost just one encounter in nearly 50 games. But the Swiss came to spoil their party. A 52nd minute goal by Gelson Fernandes sent the Spanish team packing, even though they dominated more than their opponents. Switzerland’s defense was stubborn, and as a matter of fact, they didn’t concede a single goal in the last world cup too, and were knocked out on penalties in the round of 16.

Chile 1 Honduras 0 (Group H)
Chile had not won a game in a world cup for the last 48 years. Nevertheless, they were tipped to be the team to go into the next round along with Spain from Group H. They played in a 3-3-1-3 formation which was sort of unique, and managed a very comfortable victory, though the scoreline does not suggest the same.

Uruguay 3 South Africa 0 (Group A)
Uruguay pumped in 3 goals giving them their first world cup match win since 1990, propelling them to the top of Group A. On the other hand, hosts South Africa lost their first game in 14 matches, leaving them with an uphill task of going through to the next round.
